The benefit of Grade R is that many of the new Grade 1 children will be well prepared for their ‘big school’ next year.
Foundation Phase
The Head of Department Foundation
Phase, oversees the Grade R classes on
a weekly basis and trains and monitors
the educators and children. The benefit of
the introduction of a Grade R as part of
the school’s Foundation Phase is that
many of the new Grade i children will
have been well prepared for their ‘big
school’ next year.
Curriculum
The curriculum is carefully based on the
GDE national curriculum statements

The physical, intellectual,
emotional, social needs and
maturity of the learner are
addressed

Age appropriate progression
monitoring

Interaction between educators
and parents are encouraged

Emphases on perceptual skills
(gross and motor skills)

Learn through play and 3-
dimensional activities

Summer: Blue Jean Shorts, The Yard T-
Shirt (No skirts)
Winter: Blue Jean Pants, The Yard T-Shirt
(No skirts)
Jacket: The Yard’s Dri-mac
Hat: The Yard's floppy hat
The Yard’s Hat, Dri-mac and T-Shirts are
compulsory, available from The Yard’s
office

Rules
•
Punctuality is crucial
•
No sharp or dangerous objects that
may cause injury are allowed
•
A pupil may be suspended due to
constant disruption and
misbehaviour within the school
environment.

Parents will be requested to replace
any school property deliberately
damaged by a child.
•
The school cannot be held liable for
any toys/articles brought to school.
•
No child will be handed over to a
stranger.
•
No child may be removed from The
Yard without first informing the
educator that you are now taking
the child into your care.
•
If you are delayed in fetching your
child, please inform Teacher Stella
(012-361 5337). No instructions will
be taken from the children. Daily
changes can be communicated via
the message book.
•
Children may not litter.
•
No sweets are allowed.
•
No throwing of stones, sticks, etc
